My first marathon is next month!

Last August, I announced that I had signed up for the ING Georgia Marathon, which takes place on March 21. Back then it seemed like a lofty and distant goal. But February is here now, and the race is actually next month! It’s hard to believe that one year ago, I had not run 400m in over 7 years, yet in a month, I’ll be running a marathon [something I never did in High School]

Training has been going quite well. I created a 18 week training plan and followed it for the first few weeks. When 2010 rolled around I decided to make a big investment in myself and picked up some coaching by joining Team Sasquatch. Since then, I’ve been following the runs prescribed to me by my coach and we’ve been going over the results each week. I’ve slowly been working the distance of my long run up, and I’ve now completed a 17 mile training run. This time last year, the thought of me running 17 miles was laughable.

Over the next month and a half, I’ll continue inching forward with the distance of my long run, and do one or two small races in between. Before I know it, March 21 will be here and I’ll toe the start line of my 1st marathon. My goal is to get across that finish line, and I’m really looking forward to achieving that. This past week, I even had a dream about the day of the race [of course, the dream was I forgot some water bottles, missed the start of the race, etc] but the fact I’m dreaming about it means it is ever so slowly getting closer!
