Chattahoochee Challenge 10K Race Report

Saturday morning I participated in the 9th annual Chattahoochee Challenge 10K. I've heard about this race for a while, as people talk about it as one of the best races to qualify for the Peachtree Road Race since it is nice and flat. The weather wasn't perfect today as it was 40F with a windchill of probably close to 32F, but it didn't rain during the race, so I consider ourselves lucky! Getting there, you had to park about a mile down the road from the start in a school and hike it to packet pickup. Thankfully, unlike some of the more local races, they didn't also give you your T-Shirt before the race and make you lug it around. ...

My first marathon is next month!

Last August, I announced that I had signed up for the ING Georgia Marathon, which takes place on March 21. Back then it seemed like a lofty and distant goal. But February is here now, and the race is actually next month! It's hard to believe that one year ago, I had not run 400m in over 7 years, yet in a month, I'll be running a marathon [something I never did in High School] Training has been going quite well. I created a 18 week training plan and followed it for the first few weeks. When 2010 rolled around I decided to make a big investment in myself and picked up some coaching by joining Team...

January by the Numbers

Photo by digitalART2 on FlickrThis is the first month in forever where I felt like I got a good solid training month in - and that was with me missing a few days due to a cruise, and another few to illness. I can't wait to see what February brings! I ran 12 times for a total of 96.85 miles [so close to my first 100 mile month ever!]. I spent a total of 17:12:01 running. My 3 longs runs for the month were: 12.99m @ 2:02:22 (9:58min/mi) @ 168bpm 15.01m @ 2:27:53 (9:51min/mi) @ 170bpm 17.04m @ 3:09:40 (11:08min/mi) @ 161bpm I biked only 6 times for a total of 102.34 miles. I was on the bike for 6:31:08. My long ride was: 22.85 @ 1:30:01 (15.2mph) @ 125bpm...

2010 – Getting Serious

I look at 2009 as my getting started year - I started running again for the first time in over 7 years, and resumed cycling as well [mainly focusing on cyclocross]. With that behind me now, I'm looking at 2010 as the year I'm getting serious. The 4 objectives I want to complete for the year are:
  • Marathon [ING GA Marathon on 3/21]
  • XTERRA Triathlon [XTERRA Ft. Yargo on 4/24]
  • Olympic Triathlon [West Point Lake Olympic Triathlon on 6/13]
  • 70.3 Triathlon [Augusta 70.3 on 9/26]
On top of those quantifiable goals, some of my meta goals are:
  • Improve running speed [based off 5K & 10K times]
  • Stay consistent in my training
  • HAVE FUN
That last goal, to Have Fun, is the most important one to me and I will shift and...

2009 – A Year in Review

Sunset2009Small2009 has been quite a fun & busy year for me in the running/biking/swimming world. Ok, not really in the swimming world, but the other two for sure! For the first time in 8 years I started running again, and I rode/jumped like a maniac in my second season of cyclocross. It was a pretty solid training year in my own personal opinion (and we all know that's the one that matters!) and I hit quite a few milestones along the way There's still room for improvement in 2010 though! Before I can tell you what's ahead, I should probably recap what happened this past year. Running In March, I decided that I was tired of being a lazy bum and...
